Guild Events cancelled till further notice - But wait!!

Manawatu Woodworkers Guild - IMG 0836

So Covid-19 has hit the country and the government has told us to go into lock down for 4 weeks. This means that for at least the next month no guild events will be happening. Sad news for us all who loved to meet up and talk woodworking.

But although you have to stay at home let's keep on woodworking! some suggestions for those in isolation

  • Wood Carving - get out your chisels and carve some wood. You can download patterns online and make some amazing gifts as you hone your carving skills
  • Pyrography, if you have a pyrography machine this is a good time to sit down and use it to experiment with what you can do with wood burning. Make just a picture in a piece of ply, or find a piece of driftwood to do a burnt picture onto
  • Wood Turning. If you have a lathe at home this may be an opportunity to try out a technique you've never tried before. Maybe try out Segmented Turning instead of a standard bowl. Or try a chisel you have rarely used to see what great shapes you can make
  • Scroll sawing. Make yourself some lovely fretwork pieces or try your hand at compound cutting
  • Toys make lots of toys. Although our toy groups can't meet there is still the opportunity to make toys at home. We still need lots of toys for christmas
  • Furniture makers, Make some lovely treasure boxes or practice your hand cut dovetail jointing

There are lots of things you can do while in isolation. And we would love to see them. We are adding to the website a virtual show and tell submission form and page so we can all see what people are doing while in isolation. We may even put the vouchers from our regular show and tell up for grabs.

So Get woodworking Guildies!
